St Luke’s strives to be a center of spiritual strength and service to others, remembering that we are called to be the presence of Christ in the world.
We are an Episcopal parish in the Diocese of Long Island and a member of the global Anglican Communion. As such, we worship using the 1979 Book of Common Prayer.
We are a liturgical and sacramental church. We gather weekly to celebrate the Mass (also called The Holy Eucharist), where we are nourished by the reading of God’s Word and by receiving the Body and Blood of Our Lord. Anglicans believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
We hold to the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds and preserve within our tradition the Apostolic Succession of bishops. We are members of one holy catholic and apostolic Church, connected through time and geography to the faith and witness of the very first followers of Jesus.
We believe Jesus is the divine Son of God and the incarnation of the second person of the Trinity. He was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, healed and preached, died upon the cross, was raised bodily, and ascended back into heaven.
We believe the church is the Body of Christ in the world, inspired and animated by the Holy Spirit to preach the Gospel of redemption in Christ’s name. The church is comprised of 4 orders: The baptized, deacons, priests, and bishops.
Our common life together is shaped by our vows taken in Holy Baptism, and we believe our baptism calls us to a life of repentance, holiness, and service.
The Eucharist is the ultimate expression of our unity in Christ, individuals sharing in one bread, transformed into one body.
Our unity in Jesus overcomes all barriers and divisions: race, ethnicity, language, age, socio-economic status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, gender identity, difference in physical ability, or neuro typicality/atypicality. We take St Paul quite literally when he writes “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s then you are…heirs according to promise.”
Whether you’re a lifelong Episcopalian, a Christian not affiliated with any denomination, a spiritual seeker, or even not quite sure what you’re after, St Luke’s doors are open to you.
All are truly welcome.
